Welcome to the Michael E. Stephens College of Business at the University of Montevallo! The Stephens College offers you the opportunity to learn from both faculty and professionals as we engage many Montevallo business alumni, both in the classroom and in extracurricular activities. You’ll spend most of your time in Stephens Hall (opened in 2020) and Morgan Hall, providing state-of-the-art classrooms and study spaces. The Grainger Center for Professional Development housed in the Stephens College helps students with internship opportunities, networking, and interview preparation.
The Stephens College of Business offers Alabama’s only AACSB-accredited, public, liberal arts business program. I always describe a business major’s experience as building a two-story house. The foundation of our house includes the liberal arts general education courses you’ll take your first year in which you will learn many skills corporate recruiters value: critical thinking, oral and written communication, global awareness, and problem solving. Then you’ll build the first floor of the house by taking our business core classes; the core includes courses in all business areas so that you can understand the breadth of business opportunities and how all disciplines in business (e.g., accounting, marketing, finance) interact. Then you’ll pick a major and build the second floor of your house with courses in one of these options:
- Accounting
- Data Analytics
- Finance
- Management
- Marketing
Our close proximity to Birmingham provides excellent opportunities for real-world experiences, including internships, meetings with professionals and visits to area organizations.
We look forward to having you join us to create YOUR Montevallo story. As a proud University of Montevallo business alumna myself, I’m delighted to welcome you to Montevallo!
